Brain Pickings recently posted a great overview of Buddhist economics vs. Western economics from the perspective of E.F. Schumacher’s book, Small is Beautiful :

The former, in short, tries to maximize human satisfactions by the optimal pattern of consumption, while the latter tries to maximize consumption by the optimal pattern of productive effort.

Definitely want to pick up this book and read more.
