Great advice from Mr.Patrick Rhone:
Reflect on your deepest held beliefs and convictions. Anything that you know for sure, deep down inside, should be able to withstand such questioning. Challenge them. Open them up to debate. Invite their contention.
An amazing talk from Pinboard creator Maciej Cegłowski at this year’s XOXO Festival. While he focused on Henry David Thoreau, his humor, personal story, and advice make the talk well worth your time. (Transcript)
Kottke.org linked to some serious link-bait in “How To Be A F%#king Man…” today, which purports to be the guide to being a “man” in today’s society. Apparently some people think you need an 85-point list to figure it all out nowadays or that things like owning a “handcrafted shotgun” or being a regular at a bar or that “piercings are liabilities in fights” are important AND make you a douche bag man. (Really glad Kottke called this out too.)
How about these “rules”:
- Be a good person.
- Forget everything anyone tells you about what “being a man” is…
- Pretty simple.
Stereotypes, expectations, and labels are tiring.
